Dr. Yvonne Johnson,

National PTA President

Yvonne Johnson is the 58th president of National PTA and serves to support the mission and vision of PTA on behalf of all children. She is committed to being intentional with PTA’s effort to be more inclusive, diverse and equitable and will focus the association on strengthening family and school partnerships.

Johnson has previously served as National PTA president-elect (2021-2023), vice president of advocacy (2019-2021), chair of the NCAAC and Governance Policy Committee. She was first elected to the National PTA Board of Directors in 2015 and has also served on the Resolutions (2015-2019) and Field Service (2013-2015) Committees. Johnson has been involved in PTA for nearly 30 years, serving in her home state of Delaware at the local, region and state PTA levels in many capacities, including state president (2001-2013).

Johnson’s passion is advocacy. Her personal motto is, “Never underestimate the power of a parent’s voice!” She has worked closely with elected officials and decision-makers for years, making a difference in the lives of all children. Johnson has successfully assisted in passing many education bills in Delaware and received the National PTA 2014 Shirley Igo Award for leading a grassroots advocacy campaign around inclusive classrooms in a local school district.

During her term as National PTA vice president of advocacy, Johnson was the directing arm of all advocacy issues and served as the voice for families around education issues. In 2021, she and the Legislation Committee hosted National PTA’s first ever virtual legislative conference and led the effort to form the Public Policy Platform for the 117th Congress.

Johnson is the recipient of various recognitions for her work with the Delaware General Assembly including resolutions and proclamations presented to her by the governor and lieutenant governor—as well as the Delaware Senate and House of Representatives—for her advocacy work around education issues.

Professionally, Johnson is an independent consultant who works with local school districts on school board reform and community outreach. She is married to John and has three children, Ross (Stephanie), Jessica, and Derrick (Melody), and a grandson, Crew.
